New Sls amg black series bringing gt3 performance to the road

Mercedes Benz  have announced the new sls amg, no real secret as this we spotted this testing in april at the nurburgring heavily disguised.

Mercedes Benz describe it as gt3 car performance but for the road, interesting changes:

  • Power output of 631bhp delivered at 7400rpm
  • 0-60=3.6 seconds
  • 196mph top speed.
  • Coilover amg ride control performance suspension
  • Amg high performance composite brake system
  • Weight optimised forged lightweight alloys with newly developed sports tyres.
  • Faster shift times with the Amg speedshift dct 7 speed.
  • Newly designed titanium exhaust
This is just a brief outline of the changes but reading the spec list alot of work has been done on the chassis with a wider track and new front hub setup. The engine now also revs to 8000rpm instead of the 7200 of the old sls.

Their is also an optional amg aero performance package.

The market launch of the car will be June 2013.

Motoring review have had the pleasure of driving an Sls roadster and rate it as one of the best sounding cars, the new titanium exhaust and raised limiter should make a memorable noise :)

Lord March confirms dates and prices for 2013 Goodwood events.

Following the recent announcement of provisional dates for next year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Moving Motor Show and Revival, the Earl of March is now able to confirm these 2013 dates.

The 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place from Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July. Next year’s Festival is the 20th anniversary of this hugely popular event, so it promises to be even more packed with action and excitement as the planet’s most glamorous racing machinery and famous drivers gather in the beautiful surroundings of Goodwood Park. The 2013 theme for this world renowned motor sport event will be announced very shortly.

The day before the 2013 Festival of Speed gets underway, Goodwood’s annual Moving Motor Show will be held on Thursday 4 July giving new car buyers and motoring enthusiasts the opportunity to see the very latest models up close, and in many cases drive them on a dedicated vehicle evaluation route within the grounds of the Goodwood Estate, including the revered Festival hillclimb. The new Turbo Renault clio cup racer

Hot on the heels of the brand new Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo road car unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last month, Renault UK is delighted to confirm its intention for the competition version of the fourth-generation Clio to appear in Britain for the 2014 motor racing season.
As the current domestic championship prepares to reach its conclusion at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit this weekend on 20th/21st October, work is underway behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition to the brand new turbo-powered car which will debut in Europe next year.

During initial testing, which began in early August and has so far covered around 3,500 kilometres at a variety of French circuits, lap times have been roughly one second per lap faster than the existing normally-aspirated 2.0-litre Clio Cup car.

Featuring a 1.6-litre turbo-powered engine tuned by Oreca Magny-Cours and sealed at source, developing 220hp and 270Nm of torque, the new Clio Cup racer has a six-speed sequential gearbox with an AP Racing clutch and limited slip differential. There is also the option for a paddle-shift gear change.
High performance braking is guaranteed with 320mm AP Racing front discs and four-piston callipers, while the suspension features one-way adjustable dampers from ZF-Sachs with specific aluminium wishbones. Electronically, the complete data acquisition system is integrated into the TFT full colour dash display.
Aerodynamically the car boasts a highly efficient rear wing, offering 40kg of downforce at 125mph, with the addition of a roof scoop similar to the one on the current Clio Cup. Enhanced safety features are, of course, a pre-requisite while the car sits on 17-inch Speedline Corse racing alloys.
“We’ve enjoyed 22 fantastic years of Renault UK Clio Cup racing and the brand new Clio Cup race car is an incredibly exciting new chapter in the story for everyone”, said Renault UK Communications Director Jeremy Townsend.
“We will continue to run the existing car in the British championship through 2013, with the intention to then introduce the new turbo-charged Clio Cup car the following season. Getting the timing right is very important, the car will race in the Clio Eurocup next year so our teams in the UK will have ample opportunity to see it in action ahead of its planned 2014 UK debut.”

Since first bursting onto the national motorsport scene in 1991, as a replacement for the Renault 5 series, the Renault UK Clio Cup has been a cornerstone of British circuit racing and has played a key role in the careers of some of the sport’s most successful touring car and sportscar drivers.
The previous generation Clio Cup was introduced in 2006 and has been highly successful with over 700 race cars sold.
Several graduates from Clio Cup currently form part of the current British Touring Car Championship grid, including 2006 champion Tom Onslow-Cole and 2010 title winner Dave Newsham. Jonathan Adam, the 2005 champion, is a race-winning force in the British GT Championship and also competed successfully in the BTCC prior to his switch to sportscars.

The new Clio Cup will be available for delivery in the UK from September 2013 priced from €37,800 excluding VAT.

Ferrari F12 wins best super and luxury car from the sunday times

Maranello, 14 October 2012 – A week after receiving the award for “Best Sports Car and Convertible” for the 458 Spider, Ferrari has received another award from The Sunday Times Driving, the motoring section of the influential British newspaper. This time it is the F12berlinetta that takes the honours as the “Best Supercar and Luxury Car” in the second of two special edition issues celebrating the Top 100 Cars on sale today.

The Sunday Times Driving commented: “It sounds like it should be an uncontrollable animal, but most of the time the F12 is actually a rather civilised car. According to your mood, you can tailor it to be any Ferrari you like. Which is why the F12 is not just Ferrari’s quickest car to date, but it’s one of the best too.”
The F12berlinetta was launched at the Geneva Motor Show to critical acclaim, receiving the prestigious “Auto Bild Design Award” earlier this year. The F12berlinetta is Ferrari’s most powerful and quickest accelerating road-going production car to date, with 740hp and a 0-62mph time of 3.1 seconds. However, exceptional progress has also been made in terms of fuel consumption and emissions, which have been reduced by 30 per cent, and the F12berlinetta also boasts the highest overall aerodynamic efficiency of any Ferrari ever built with downforce of 123 kg at 200 km/h and a Cd of just 0.299.

New 45th anniversary Mercedes Benz Amg sls Gt3

Press release for the new 45th anniversary Amg sls Gt, is there a tougher looking car around?

Limited-edition customer sport racing car to mark the 45th birthday of Mercedes-AMG
Affalterbach – With the new SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY", Mercedes-AMG is presenting an exclusively appointed special series which is aimed at car collectors with a particular penchant for motor racing. The customer sports racing car is being built by hand in a limited edition of no more than five vehicles in Affalterbach. Record DTM champion and AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider is involved hands-on in the production process, installing the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" together with an AMG engine fitter.

The exclusive collector’s item is also a synonym for the successful AMG Customer Sports Programme: With 32 victories in the current 2012 Motor Sports Season and after winning three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT1 World Championship, the race edition of the gullwing car of Mercedes-AMG is an impressive success story as well.
A number of exterior and interior modifications have been carried out for the special SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" model. The body of the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" gleams auspiciously in the new designo magno graphite matt paint finish, for example. To date, this matt paintwork has been exclusive to the SL 65 AMG "45th ANNIVERSARY", which was unveiled to mark the 45th birthday of Mercedes-AMG at the New York International Auto Show in April 2012. The AMG light-alloy wheels in designo magno graphite complement the body's matt paintwork to perfection.

Another eye-catching feature is the striking "45 Years of Driving Performance" logo framed in silver on the GT3 racing car's gullwing doors. The special edition's logo embodies consummate design right down to the finer points of detail: closer inspection reveals the exposed carbon-fibre structure of the gullwing doors under the matt paintwork. The doors, along with the bonnet, mudguards, boot lid, rear wings, front and rear apron, front splitter and rear diffusor, are produced in the particularly lightweight motorsport material CFRP (CFRP = carbon fibre reinforced plastic).

The interior of the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" evokes a functional racing car atmosphere, refined by high-quality, exclusive details: the steel roll-over cage is finished in matt "designo magno graphite" to match the exterior. The racing car's dashboard and centre console sport a matt carbon-fibre finish. Effective contrasts are produced by six-point seat belts and a steering wheel with silver detail.
The collector's item also boasts a seat shell in a high-strength carbon-fibre safety cell on the co-driver's side. A special badge with a "1 of 5" logo on the seats and the centre console alludes to the limited production run for this racing car. The standard appointments for the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" are rounded off by a high-quality AMG indoor car cover with "45 Years of Driving Performance" logo.

Bernd Schneider as a VIP engine fitter
In keeping with the exclusive exterior and interior equipment and appointments, the engineering under the bonnet is of a similarly exclusive standard. 48 year-old racing driver Bernd Schneider is assisting the AMG engine fitter responsible for installing the naturally aspirated AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine. The special AMG engine badge bearing the signatures of Bernd Schneider and the engine fitter attest to this high-calibre duo's handiwork. Customers who acquire one of the rare SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" models also receive an exclusive vehicle certificate signed by Bernd Schneider.

The five-times DTM champion, overall ITC winner from 1995 and FIA GT world champion from 1997 works for Mercedes-AMG as a brand ambassador and an instructor at the AMG Driving Academy.
As an established expert in the field of SLS AMG GT3 customer motorsport Bernd Schneider has carried out the majority of the test drives for the racing version of the gullwing model. He also participates in selected races as part of the AMG driver support set-up. Bernd Schneider competed for various AMG customer teams in 2012, including the 24-hour Dubai race, at the Nürburgring and in Spa-Francorchamps. In the ninth race of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring, Bernd Schneider took a start position together with Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED) for the AMG Customer Team Black Falcon and won the 4-hour race. After numerous podium positions in the past two years, this was his first victory with the SLS AMG GT3.

Vehicle handover directly at AMG headquarters
Handover of the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" takes place directly at Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, where customers are also granted exclusive insights into the AMG world and have an opportunity to sample AMG's hallmark excellent service and support quality. An in-depth introduction to the operation of the new vehicle and its engineering and technology is provided in the new 360 square-metre handover hall. In the case of this special GT3 racing car, this instruction is provided personally by AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider.

The programme also includes a tour of the factory, taking in the AMG Performance Studio, where exclusive series of individual AMG cars and one-off vehicles are developed and hand-made. This is followed by a visit to the AMG engine "Manufaktur" (hand-finishing section), where Bernd Schneider and the AMG engine fitter assembled this special AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine by hand. On request, the SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" customer can enjoy a race track coaching session as part of an initiation event with the vehicle.
Price: SLS AMG GT3 "45th ANNIVERSARY" € 446,250

Success on four continents, exemplary safety standard
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 is the racing version of the SLS AMG which has been designed for customer motorsport. 49 such vehicles for short- and long-distance races have been delivered worldwide to date. In its first season in 2011, the gullwing model quickly established itself as the most successful newcomer of the motorsport year. International customer teams competing on four continents notched up a total of 26 wins. The vehicle's successful run was crowned when HEICO Motorsport won the team rankings at the FIA GT3 European Championship with its two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s – the first title for the gullwing model in its first full racing season.

In the 2012 motorsport season the SLS AMG GT3 is competing in more than 15 racing series on four continents, including the FIA GT1 World Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring and the Blancpain Endurance Series. The triple victory in the 24-hour Dubai race in January 2012, three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, the FIA GT1 World Championship and numerous places on the podium at various short-distance, 4- and 6-hour races demonstrate the SLS AMG GT3's sporty performance in impressive style. For the time being, the 2012 season comprises 32 victories (1st October 2012).

The SLS AMG GT3 additionally offers an exemplary standard of safety which currently sets standards in GT3 racing. Mercedes-AMG develops and produces the customer sport racing car in close cooperation with HWA AG. HWA is responsible for development and deployment of the Mercedes AMG C-Class Coupés in the DTM on behalf of and in on-going consultation with Mercedes-Benz Motorsport.

The new supercharged Caterham R600.

Having spent the day with a caterham roadsport today it was announced earlier the company would be building a new r600, the full release is below.

  • Fastest Caterham Seven race car to date
  • First supercharged production Seven
  • Extreme performance from 275bhp Seven
Iconic British road and race car manufacturer, Caterham Cars, has developed its most extreme race-ready Seven to date – the Superlight R600.
With stunning performance potential and all the character of existing Caterham circuit cars, the new supercharged incarnation of the Seven will represent the top echelon of the Caterham racing spectrum in the Superlight R600 Championship from 2013.
Powered by a supercharged, 2-litre Ford Duratec engine, producing 275bhp, the R600’s dedicated championship will further extend the Caterham Motorsport ‘ladder’, currently topped by the hugely successful R300 series.

The R600 race car, which costs £44,995, will be the first Seven ever to feature forced induction technology, making it the fastest ever production Seven and a natural progression from the advances made with Caterham’s sports prototype, the SP/300.R, which uses a similar power plant.
Caterham is expecting at least a16-car grid for the debut championship season in 2013, with 30 cars anticipated to compete the following year.
Simon Lambert, Caterham’s Chief Motorsport and Technical Officer, said: “Caterham racing just got even more interesting.
“As the fastest Seven we’ve ever built, this will provide our existing R300 racers with a real step up and a new and exciting challenge, even for experienced drivers. The R600 represents an increase in aggressiveness, although the linear power delivery of the supercharged engine makes it superbly driveable, much like the R300.”

A clear development from the Academy, Roadsport, Tracksport, Supersport and R300 race cars, the R600 will transfer driving characteristics inherent to all Sevens but will be more aggressive – with 200lb-ft of torque, it represents a 13% increase on the current top-of-the-range road-going Seven, the legendary Superlight R500.
Meanwhile, 275bhp is directed to the rear wheels through a six-speed, sequential gearbox.
The headline specification also comprises a Titan limited-slip differential and Avon radial slicks or wets, for increased traction and quicker lap times.

The latest variant of the Seven can be bought as a new car or existing R300 owners can upgrade their vehicles to R600 spec. Exact price will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
As Caterham’s brand profile continues to rise, thanks to its addition to the Formula One grid, the Company will also look to gather together its flourishing series of domestic championships – from the entry-level Academy to the premium new championship – to create dedicated, festival-style Caterham race days.

To register your interest in the new car and race series, please contact Caterham on 01322 625800 or email motorsport@caterham.co.uk

Writeup and photo set from the britcar 24 hours.

The 2012 britcar was a mixed bag this year, an event I feel has been struggling for afew years now this year was no different. The list of cars was apparently doctored and in reality there were 33 cars at the start of the race.

Britcar tends to boast a wide range of cars and in it's prime had many of the top cars from ferrari, porsche, mosler etc entered. This made for entertaining racing, with the different noises (more on this later) and a genuine racing environment between many cars. I suppose the top gear episode had boosted the event for spectators and race entries, it has slowly tailed off since then, with the race becoming more expensive and people more reluctant to pay the money to run a top level car over 24 hours.

Compared to other 24 hour race, the nurburgring 24, barcelona 24,dubai 24 and the spa 24 hours, it has neither the competitor numbers or the incentives, these event's draw in large numbers of spectators the consumable required to be bought from the organisers can be obtained for a fair price and  no noise limits.

The barcelona 24 hours includes free fuel and six free tyres and a lower entry fee to get the numbers in.

The biggest problem this year was the noise limits, this isn't directly britcar's fault as they can only go on what silverstone is telling them but this really hampered the fun. In previous years it was a real joy to listen to the mjc ferrari 430 popping, crackling and flaming round the circuit and the roar of the mosler's chasing it down. The supercharged whine of the exige and the weird jet/scream emitted from the seat supercopa's.

This year harsh noise limit's where put in place. This was odd to hear as I listened to the Ferrari xx programme last weekend, which was very close to the sound levels of the Formula 1 programme. Alot of car's went into the qualifying heavily silenced but still flagged problem, the strangest thing was car's that had run for 6 or so hours trouble free then all of a sudden were over the limit. The honda Jazz (which I think add's some real character to the lineup) withdrew after constant problems, the screaming supercopa again wasn't anywhere to be seen after noise problems, alot of car's spent long periods of time in the pit with the mechanic's creating more and more elaborate silencers, the Aston Martin Vantage sported a very ugly silencer in the end. Most of the top teams just let off on the straight or short shifted to drop the db, this doesn't seem much like racing to me and this really does need to be addressed before next years britcar 24.
Aston Martin Dbr9 at the britcar 24 hours
The positives, it's still a very unique event and the only 24 hour race of this type in the uk. It still manages to create a good atmosphere. Has good access for racing fans inc the pitlane access. Great to see car's in the flesh racing in the darkness and watching the visible beam for the drivers.

I hope the problems can be resolved for next year because this event deserves to succeed for British motorsport. It is unique in the country and if the entry price is lowered and more appealing to teams it could work.

Mclaren P1 photo's and goals.

Mclaren have released pictures of the f1 replacement, the Mclaren P1.

McLaren Automotive will use its first ever international motor show appearance to preview its next generation ultimate supercar – the McLaren P1 – which takes much of its technological and spiritual inspiration from the company’s Racing division.  The McLaren P1 has one simple goal: to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track.

At the Paris Motor Show, Mondial de l'Automobile 2012, the McLaren P1 is previewed as a design study. Next year a production version, which the company aims to put on sale within 12 months, will be revealed.
‘The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage,’ says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. ‘Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again.’
‘Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit,’ says McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff. ‘It is the true test of a supercar’s all round ability and a much more important technical statement. Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made.’

When the McLaren P1 goes into production later next year, it will sit above the 12C and 12C Spider, in terms of both price and performance.

Goodwood revival set to be the most expensive car display ever.

At next week’s Goodwood Revival (14-16 September) many of the most valuable cars in the world will gather to create the most expensive vehicle display anywhere on the planet!
With a mouth-watering array of rarely-seen automobiles, the total value of the cars being gathered together at Goodwood is almost beyond comprehension. Just consider the following...
In the pantheon of desirable cars, one stands above all others.  The Ferrari 250 GTO has everything – stunning looks, fantastic performance, and impeccable heritage.  Launched in 1962, the GTO reaches its half century this year, and to celebrate the Revival will feature a display and daily track parade of 15 GTOs, which is sure to be one of the most jaw-dropping (and valuable) sights in Revival history.  With an average value estimated at £20 million each, the value of the 15 Ferrari GTOs displayed at the Revival totals a cool £300 million.
In addition to the 250 GTOs, this year’s Revival will offer visitors a truly unique opportunity to see a large gathering of mythical pre-war Silver Arrows being demonstrated on track together at speed for the first time in more than 70 years. The sensational Auto Unions and Mercedes-Benz will appear alongside examples of the ERAs, Maseratis, Rileys and MGs they trounced on their first appearance on British soil, 75 years ago at the 1937 Donington Grand Prix.
Goodwood estimates that the Revival will see the largest ever gathering of Silver Arrows racers brought together in the same place at the same time, with at least ten examples. Although most are priceless, and virtually impossible to estimate their true worth, a combined value of the collection in the unlikely event they would ever be offered for sales is comfortably in excess of £100 million.
The one-hour, two-driver Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race for closed-cockpit GT cars remains the jewel in the Revival’s crown.  Nowhere else in the world can you see such a spectacular grid of super-rare GT cars racing in anger, driven by great aces past and present.  The grid will once again feature a breathtaking £100+ million array of internationally-renowned historic cars, including Ferrari 250 GTO and GT SWB; Aston Martin DB4GT, Zagato and Project cars; plus Jaguar E-types and E-Type Lightweights.
This year’s Saturday feature race will be very special indeed, featuring a grid exclusively made up of AC Cobras and variants in the Shelby Cup, in celebration of the model’s 50th anniversary.  It will be a 45-minute two-driver race, with driver changes in the pits between 15 and 30 minutes.  With a mixture of standard cars and special-bodied coupés, it should make for an intriguing spectacle and a fitting tribute to this iconic Anglo-American sports car.  Racing Cobras with known history can change hands for up to £2 million each at present, so a mild average value estimate of £500,000 per car still adds up to a £20 million grid of snarling V8s.
The total value of the other cars and motorcycles in the remaining Revival races add up to another £80 million, and that’s not including the stunning array of vehicles offered for sales in the Bonhams auctioned at the event on Saturday 15 September, nor any of the 2,000 tax exempt classic cars that park-up in the Revival Car Show each day!
So, the combined value of the vehicles appearing at this year’s annual Goodwood Revival is conservatively estimated at over £600 million.  That’s an awful lot of lottery wins needed to acquire that lot.  Revival-goers are certainly in for a very special treat next week!

Harrods Mclaren F1 gtr at chelsea auto legends

Well it's the day after the brilliant chelsea auto legends show and I must say it's been a trip back down to earth, it's grown on me even more than yesterday and is one of, if not the best show's I have attended.

There isn't as many cars as other events BUT every car is worthy of a photo and examination, the setting is also beautiful and there is a real relaxed manor to the event with many well mannered people (barring everyone at hr owen more to come on that though).

Here's some pictures of the beautiful Harrods Mclaren F1 gtr.
